CMHW 1300 Health Promotion II
Description
Health Promotion II explores the role of the Community Health Worker (CHW) in health promotion and disease prevention management strategies related to the topics of sexuality, gender identity, chronic disease, infectious disease, communicable disease, diabetes, heart disease and stroke, cancer, oral health, asthma, COPD, trauma informed care, and healthy aging. Cultural navigation, presentation skills and connecting clients to resources and support systems will be practiced.

1. Identify and prevent infectious diseases
2. Discuss significance of sexuality, STDs, substance abuse, violence and their impact on individuals, families, and communities.
3. Define condition, risk factors, and prevention strategies for diabetes, cancer, heart disease, poor oral health, mental health, and asthma as related to chronic conditions.
4. Relate socioeconomic, cultural, and emotional aspects of diabetes, cancer, heart disease, poor oral health, mental health and asthma.
5. Demonstrate the health promotion role of the CHW in diabetes, cancer, heart disease, poor oral health, mental health, asthma, trauma informed care, and healthy aging.
6. Demonstrate a variety of teaching techniques in a client visit and group setting.
