COSM 1135 Salon Preparation
Description
Salon Preparation facilitates the development of practical skills necessary for entry-level salon work concentrating on safety procedures and sanitation, business structure and organization, technical writing and creation of a professional resume, interview techniques and preparation, retail operations, and the required skill readiness to perform salon services. This course will contribute 80 hours toward licensure. The State of Minnesota mandates the hours to go toward the hour requirements.

2. Demonstration of industry level professionalism
3. Practice of two-way communication
4. Preparation for and completion of the written and Practical Skills Test as prescribed by the
5. State Board of Cosmetology Examiners of Minnesota
6. Business theory, structure, and organization
Preparation for salon employment
Learning Outcomes
1. Classify pathogenic and nonpathogenic bacteria
2. Implement safety and sanitation procedures as guided by the governing board of cosmetology
3. Identify blood borne pathogens and precautions against accidental exposure
4. Prepare tools, materials, and implements necessary for Practical Skills Test
5. Practice skills to be assessed by the Practical Skills Test
6. Create and curate visual representations of completed services in a portfolio collective
7. Describe expectations of new employees and navigation between school and salon
8. List the desirable traits and habits of salon team players
9. Explore different compensation models
10. Relate the basic principals of accounting, budgeting, and earning tracking in relationship to federal and state personal and business income taxes
11. Evaluate effective strategies for client building and retention
