COSM 1140 Clinic I
Description
Clinic I will assist students to develop the practical skills necessary for entry-level salon work concentrating on nail structure and growth, nail diseases and disorders, as well as advanced techniques for manicuring, pedicuring, and artificial nail applications. This course will contribute 112 hours toward licensure. The State of Minnesota mandates the hours to go toward the hour requirements.

Topics to be Covered
1. Safety precautions and contraindications for services
2. Care and maintenance of natural finger and toenails, Advanced artificial nail enhancement application techniques
3. Compliance with Minnesota Cosmetology Laws and Rules
Learning Outcomes
1. Describe characteristics of normal healthy nails
2. Identify the nine basic parts of the nail unit anatomical structure
3. Summarize how nails grow
4. List and relate diseases of the nail
5. Recognize nail diseases that serve as contraindications for salon services
6. Perform advanced manicuring and pedicuring techniques
7. Demonstrate dry preparation of nails for advanced enhancement applications
8. Practice artificial nail application, including tip and sculpture with acrylic and gel products
