DEN 1145 Expanded Functions A

Description

Expanded Functions A offers the student experience in mechanical polish, rubber dam application, topical applications, sealant application, gingival retraction and endodontic expanded functions. (The Minnesota Dental Practice Act has made it legal for licensed dental assistants and students enrolled in accredited dental assisting programs to perform these functions.) The student will gain Preclinical competence in these duties through the use of typodonts and clinical competence through classmates and outside patients.

Prerequisite

Satisfactory progress in the dental assisting program, or special permission from the instructor. Student must be certified in CPR before taking this course.

1. Demonstrate the following procedures as allowed by the Minnesota State Board of 2. Dentistry Rules for Licensed Dental Assistants: a. Mechanical Polish b. Placement and removal of rubber dam c. Placement of topical medications d. Placement of fluoride treatments e. Placement of sealants f. Dry root canals with paper points g. Place cotton pellets and temporary restorative materials into endodontic openings h. Placement of various types of gingival displacement materials
