Childhood Poverty: Exploring the Issues will increase understanding of the impact poverty has on children and families, examine unique inherent issues, and promote respect for family strengths. Emphasis is on providing tools to work productively and in partnership with children and families.

1. Identify generational and situational poverty and its effects upon social structures, behavior, and attitudes.
2. Demonstrate understanding of the impact middle class values have upon attitudes towards individuals in poverty.
3. Describe the differences between the culture of poverty and the middle-class culture.
4. Review professional values, ethics and the importance of confidentiality while working with children and families in poverty.
5. Apply knowledge to identify and understand the strengths and challenges of working with children and families in poverty.
6. Prepare a plan for the development and maintenance of relationship building, while maintaining the strengths of the family in poverty.
7. Demonstrate the ability to synthesize information from assigned reading and life experience.
8. Formulate a list of local, state, and national resources for children and families in poverty and their varied models of service delivery.
