EMS 2101 Emergency Medical Technician Refresher

Description

Emergency Medical Technician Refresher provides refresher training for out-of-hospital emergency medical care and transportation for critical and emergent patients for certified Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT) to maintain certification as outlined by the medical standards of the Minnesota EMS Regulatory Board and National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians. Students must have a current Emergency Medical Technician certification or Emergency Medical Technician Certification that has not been expired by more than 12 months prior to course registration .

2. Airway management, respiratory and ventilations

3. Cardiovascular system

4. Medical assessments and medication administration

5. Trauma assessments of soft tissue and musko-skeletal injuries

6. Operations, field triage, EMS provider safety and hygiene

Learning Outcomes

1. Completion of American Heart Association Basic Life Support, CPR for infant, child, adult and appropriate use of Automated External Defibrillator

2. Perform airway management of all emergency patients, use of airway adjuncts, bag valve mask, and oxygen administration

3. Perform appropriate cardiac arrest management in the field and explain ROSC, VAD, and stroke signs and symptoms

4. Demonstrate skills needed to treat emergencies for the medical patient including treatment of obstetric, geriatric, pediatric, and special needs populations

5. Explain medication administration protocols for OPIODS, behavioral and psychiatric medications in emergencies

6. Administer needed treatment for all trauma emergencies including bleeding and shock, splinting, CNS injuries

7. Describe knowledge in field triage, EMS safety, EMT hygiene, and operations

8. Perform all medical and trauma skills required by the National Registry and EMS RB and pass the final exam with a grade of 75% of higher
