EMS 2103 Emergency Medical Responder Refresher
Description
Emergency Medical Responder Refresher provides refresher training in emergency medical care for certified Emergency Medical Responder to maintain certification as outlined by the educational standards of the Minnesota EMS Regulatory Board. As the first person at the emergency scene, the first responder must be completely knowledgeable about basic principles of emergency medical care; and must know what should, as well as what should not be done. Students must hold a current Emergency Medical Responder certification of Emergency Medical Responder Certification that has not been expired by more than 12 months prior to course registration.

Learning Outcomes
1. Demonstrate successful completion of all cardiac arrest management skills and Basic Life Support exam
2. Describe knowledge of cardiac arrest management in the field, verbalize understanding of signs and symptoms of stroke and post resuscitation care
3. Perform treatment skills for all airway emergencies, utilize a BVM for an apneic patient and proper administration of oxygen
4. Demonstrate skills application for all traumatic situations including CNS injures, bleeding and shock, soft tissue injuries and all musko-skeletal injuries
5. Administer emergency medical treatment for obstetrical, geriatric, pediatric, behavioral and environmental emergencies
6. Complete the final exam earning a passing score of 75% or higher at the end of the class
