ENGL 1130 Introduction to Creative Writing

Description

Introduction to Creative Writing reviews the skills and gives students the tools to write poems and stories. Students will analyze and evaluate published writing as well as the writing of their peers. The textbook and lectures will provide strategies for writing and editing poems and stories. The class is conducted in an informal, workshop atmosphere. Students will write a final narrative for publication in Minnesota West’s creative journal.

4. Demonstrate the rudiments of narrative-based research, which includes writing a literary narrative.

5. Illustrate the ability to use MLA style, which includes organizing papers in MLA format.

6. Practice effective critical thinking skills, which may include but is not limited to

7. discussing and synthesizing information such as the characteristics of a writer’s style and choices.

8. Revise and edit texts for specific writing modes and audiences, which may include but is not limited to: a. Applying correct grammatical and mechanical conventions for the rhetorical situation. b. Writing effective and varied sentences that align with the rhetorical purpose. conducting collaborative revisions.
