Mathematics Transfer Pathway, A.A.

Overview

The Mathematics Transfer Pathway AA offers students a powerful option: the opportunity to complete an Associate of Arts degree with course credits that directly transfer to designated Mathematics bachelor’s degree programs at Minnesota State universities. The curriculum has been specifically designed so that students completing this pathway degree and transferring to one of the seven Minnesota State universities* enter the university with junior-year status. All courses in the Transfer Pathway associate degree will directly transfer and apply to the designated bachelor’s degree programs in a related field.

*Universities within the Minnesota State system include Bemidji State University; Metropolitan State University; Minnesota State University, Mankato; Minnesota State University Moorhead; Southwest Minnesota State University; St. Cloud State University; and Winona State University.

General AA Degree Requirements

Requirements:

  1. A minimum of 60 credits, 15 of which must be earned at Minnesota West Community & Technical College (residency).
  2. A grade point average of 2.0 (“C”) or better.
  3. A minimum of 40 credits of general education that fulfill the ten areas of the Minnesota Transfer Curriculum (MTC).
    1. Courses may count in no more than two of the areas of emphasis, but no individual course can count more than once in Areas 1-6.
    2. One-credit courses will apply to the MTC only if two or more one-credit courses are completed in the same discipline.
  4. STSK 1110 Freshman Seminar (1) credit.
  5. A minimum of four credits from two of the following areas: HLTH 1101, CSCI 1102, or any PHED course.
  6. Electives sufficient to total 60 credits.
  7. NOTE: Many colleges and universities require a grade of C or better and cumulative GPA of 2.0 or better. Be sure to check these details with the institution and program to which you desire to transfer.

Program Learning Outcomes:

 After completing the Mathematics Transfer Pathway AA, students will:

  • Use mathematical knowledge to formulate appropriate models and problem-solving approaches in diverse contexts.
  • Utilize computing skills for problem-solving, data analysis, and visualization.
  • Effectively communicate problem-solving methods and findings.
