COSM 1182: License Preparation for Cosmetology II

Description

License Preparation for Cosmetology II prepares the student for both their Minnesota State Board written and practical examinations. Students will review Minnesota Statutes and Rules in preparation for the required skills readiness tests and salon experience. This course will provide students with an opportunity to develop the practical skills necessary for entry-level salon work, concentrating on safety procedures and sanitation. This course will cover basic anatomy and physiology, skin structure, skin disorders and diseases, as well as the basic components of cosmetic chemistry. This course will contribute 48 hours toward licensure. The State of Minnesota mandates the hours to go toward the hour requirements.

2. Identify blood borne pathogens and justify the means of protecting against exposure

3. Relate the importance of universal precautions to safety and sanitation measures

4. Explore and contrast the differences between cleaning, disinfecting, and sterilizing

5. Describe the structure and composition of the skin

6. Recognize the functions of the skin

7. Review common skin lesions and contraindications for services

8. Characterize the disorders of the sebaceous glands

9. Distinguish contact dermatitis from general dermatitis and extrapolate how to prevent it
