OTAC 2130: Level I Fieldwork B

Description

Level I Fieldwork B participates in a 32-40 hour supervised clinical experience in an OTA practice or comparable environment. Knowledge and skills learned from previous courses are applied when working with clients and staff in a professional setting. Students are supervised by a qualified individual and will have opportunities to observe clients and apply therapeutic knowledge.

Learning Outcomes

1. Observe the process of gathering necessary data through interviews, occupational histories, and/or consultations with other staff.

2. Apply the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) Code of Ethics, Core Values and Attitudes of Occupational Therapy, and AOTA Standards of Practice as a means of guiding professional interactions in client treatment and employment settings.

3. Interact in a professional manner with colleagues (intra- and inter-professional), clients, families/significant others, public, supervisor and other service providers.

4. Demonstrate respect for diversity factors of others including but not limited to socio-cultural, socioeconomic, spiritual, and lifestyle choices.

5. Demonstrate proper documentation utilizing verbal and written reports regarding occupational therapy services

6. Communicate clearly and effectively the values, beliefs, and role of occupational therapy, highlighting the use of occupation to clients, families and inter-, intra-professionals.

7. Anticipate potentially hazardous situations and uses sound judgment to take steps to prevent accidents. Adhere consistently to safety regulations.

8. Demonstrates therapeutic use of self to effectively interact with clients to facilitate goal attainment.

10. Apply knowledge to address the needs of clients who have physical, psychosocial, and/or development deficits affecting occupational performance as appropriate for fieldwork environment.
