OTAC 2240: Level II Fieldwork B

Description

Level II Fieldwork B is an eight-week supervised clinical experience in an occupational therapy setting. Knowledge and skills learned from previous courses are applied when working with clients and staff in a clinical setting. Students are supervised by an OT and/or OTA and will have opportunities to work intra- and inter-professionally throughout the eight-week fieldwork. Students will share their knowledge of evidence-based practice with others during their placement to promote lifelong learning.

Learning Outcomes

1. Implement intervention plans and strategies that are culturally relevant, reflective of current occupational therapy practice, and based on available evidence.

2. Plan and provide occupational therapy services, including therapeutic use of occupation, exercises, and activities (e.g., occupation-based intervention, purposeful activity, preparatory methods), with necessary supervision in collaboration with OTs and members of the healthcare community.

3. Plan and provide training in self-care, self-management, health management and maintenance, home management, and community and work integration in all contexts relevant to the client.

4. Use technology to support performance, participation, health and well-being, and to teach compensatory strategies, such as the use of technology and adaptions to the environment that support performance, participation, and well-being.

5. Provide remediation and compensatory techniques for physical, mental, cognitive, perceptual, neuromuscular, behavioral, and sensory functions (e.g., vision, tactile, auditory, gustatory, olfactory, pain, temperature, pressure, vestibular, proprioception).

6. Facilitate discharge planning by demonstrating knowledge of available resources and identifying when it is appropriate to terminate services.

7. Work effectively with those involved in therapy process by using the teaching-learning process to educate and train clients, family, and colleagues in areas of occupation as well as prevention, health maintenance, health promotion, and safety.

8. Complete documentation throughout the occupational therapy process by ensuring that the standards for reimbursement of services are met by adhering to the requirements of applicable facility, local, state, and federal reimbursement agencies.

9. Adhere consistently to the American Occupational Therapy Association Code of Ethics and fieldwork site policies and procedures.

10. Participate in the evaluation, planning, and implementation of a plan of care as well as outcome satisfaction under the supervision of an OT.

11. Anticipate potentially hazardous situations and uses sound judgment to take steps to prevent accidents. Adhere consistently to safety regulations.

12. Demonstrate therapeutic use of self to effectively interact with clients to facilitate goal attainment.
