Description
Pre-Field Practicum: Social Work provides supervised work experiences in the field of social work. Students, in consultation with field supervisor, select practicum placement in social service agencies under the supervision of a social worker.

Second year students only. Completion of learning outcomes contract; confidentiality contract; placement agreement; and DHS background check

Topics to be Covered
1. Develop knowledge of the Human Services and Social Worker fields.
2. Develop knowledge of career paths in the social services.
3. Develop knowledge of various needs of client populations.
Learning Outcomes
1. Understand and identify professional roles and boundaries in human services.
2. Demonstrate professional demeanor in behavior, appearance, and communications.
3. Identify personal and professional values within the human services profession.
4. Develop self-awareness to eliminate the influence of personal biases and values in working with diverse individuals.
5. Identify cultural and system structures that may marginalize, create, or enhance privilege and power.
6. Identify agency and organizational policies that advocate social well-being.
7. Demonstrate professional communication with agency members and populations served.
8. Identify the variety of social service delivery options available to individuals.
9. Examine the human diversity within social service settings.
10. Display cultural appropriate intervention and strategies which are congruent with the live experiences of the individuals.
