ENGL 1102 Composition II
Description
Composition II emphasizes research, information literacy and synthesis, critical thinking, and style development. The topics covered include research, information analysis and synthesis, advanced mechanics and editing, and argumentative writing. Writing assignments include several essays, syntheses, annotated bibliographies, and a research paper.

Topics to be Covered
1. Argumentative writing.
2. Information analysis and synthesis

Learning Outcomes
1. Illustrate how to choose, narrow, and research a topic, which includes but is not limited to writing a research paper.
2. Analyze, evaluate, and synthesize information discovered about a topic, which includes but is not limited to writing a sample synthesis and research synthesis.
3. Integrate outside sources using summary, paraphrasing, and quotations, which includes but is not limited to writing source annotations.
4. Demonstrate discipline-specific knowledge of audience and rhetorical situations, which includes but is not limited to organizing essays using one of the following prescribed styles: MLA or APA.
5. Practice effective critical thinking skills, which includes but is not limited to creating discipline-specific documents that employ effective techniques for specific writing situations
6. Engage in guided revision and/or writing workshops, which includes but is not limited to prewriting, drafting, revising and editing.
